Waiting On Wednesday #45: Dodger, by Terry Pratchett

This is a weekly book meme, hosted by
which features future releases that
we book bloggers
are eagerly anticipating!

Here's my pick for this week!

Hardcover, 336 pages
HarperCollins
Expected Publication:
September 13, 2012
Genre: YA Fantasy

Amazon Synopsis

A storm. Rain-lashed city streets. A flash of lightning. A scruffy lad sees a girl leap desperately from a horse-drawn carriage in a vain attempt to escape her captors. Can the lad stand by and let her be caught again? Of course not, because he's . . . Dodger.
Seventeen-year-old Dodger may be a street urchin, but he gleans a living from London's sewers, and he knows a jewel when he sees one. He's not about to let anything happen to the unknown girl—not even if her fate impacts some of the most powerful people in England.
From Dodger's encounter with the mad barber Sweeney Todd to his meetings with the great writer Charles Dickens and the calculating politician Benjamin Disraeli, history and fantasy intertwine in a breathtaking account of adventure and mystery.
Beloved and bestselling author Sir Terry Pratchett combines high comedy with deep wisdom in this tale of an unexpected coming-of-age and one remarkable boy's rise in a complex and fascinating world.

WOW.  What can I say?
Charles Dickens is one of my all-time
favorite writers!
I especially love his immortal
Oliver Twist, with all of its
wonderful characters, of which
the Artful Dodger is one.
Pratchett has a solid reputation
as a very inventive science fiction
and fantasy author.
In his hands, a novel based on
the fascinating world of
this beloved Dickens novel is
sure to be just as wonderful
as the original!
So I will definitely be pre-ordering
this one!!

What do you think of my choice?
What fascinating books
are you all eagerly awaiting
this week?

  1. Hi Maria - The plot of this one sounds great. The book sounds really different and really fun. It is a really neat idea to mix Dickens and Sweeney Todd.

I have heard of Pratchett but never read anything by him. His other books also look very good.

  2. Hey, Brian!

You know, I've been hearing about Pratchett for a long time now, but have yet to read any of his books. I might very well start with this one! And I agree, combining Dickens with Sweeney Todd is indeed a great idea!

@The Brunette Librarian: I agree! And the Dodger is in the lower right-hand corner, too. I wonder if he came across this room by mistake, and is now satisfying his curiosity...guess I'll find out when I get my hands on the book! Lol. Thanks for commenting!! : )
